Fish For All is a group of commercial fishers who have combined their voice to fight against the Western Australian government’s recent decision to ban demersal fishing up and down the WA coast. Many businesses and livelihoods are negatively affected by this decision and this group is urging caution and a review of the decision. They are advocating for sustainable fishing practices that will allow them to continue their businesses while also caring for the future of our marine environment.

Our Task

We were approached by Nicole Moody – the PR expert coordinating this group of professional fishermen to create a powerful collection of documentary-style social media clips to help them spread their message. The tone is very serious and the visuals needed to match the messaging.

We arranged a fantastic warehouse studio location to film a series of interviews, set up our lighting, and captured their heartfelt messages in a cinematic way that emphasised the seriousness of the content. There is no overlay footage, it’s simply those most affected speaking from the heart.

In post production our task was to edit an extensive list of social media clips to help gather support and spread the group’s message. We ended up delivering over 20 pieces of content from this interview series, as well as a full-length edit to be played on their website and the response has been powerful.

The Result

We think the look of this shoot is smooth and simple to let the message speak the loudest. There’s no animations or flashy transitions, and it doesn’t need those elements. Since launching this content publicly the movement has gained popularity and strength and their Instagram feed is full of the content we created.

We’re proud to be a part of this movement to save people’s livelihoods and push for a more sustainable solution to fishing in Western Australia. Politicians making “captains calls” is a dangerous path to walk.
