The Hawaiian Ride for Youth is Australia’s premiere charity event for the prevention of youth suicide and depression. Dozens of riders travel from Albany or Jurien Bay to Perth in Western Australia over 4.5 days. They pass through regional towns and speak about these important mental health issues. And the money raised goes to Youth Focus – one of the most well respected youth charities in Australia.
The homecoming of the Ride for Youth riders is always a special event. Held at Kings Park in the heart of Perth it sees the riders’ families and friends turn up to support their loved ones’ achievements. It’s also the moment that everyone finds out how much money has been raised for charity. Our job was to capture this heartwarming occasion and edit together a video showing why this is such a worthwhile cause.
We had multiple camera operators roaming the finish line and presentation ceremony areas in Kings Park. Our crew gathered well before the riders were due to arrive and stayed to capture the ceremony and emotion of the day. There were a lot of things going on and a lot of people littering the track so we had to be flexible and unobtrusive.
The final video shows the warmth and spirit of this extremely worthwhile event. The participants are celebrated by their loved ones and the recipients of the money raised are eternally grateful. There are plenty of hugs, tears, and huge smiles.
We film events like this all the time and we love them. Check out some more of our event coverage HERE
