Weststyle is one of the most awarded and respected home designers and builders in Western Australia. Their projects frequently receive accolades at the Housing Industry Awards and the Master Builders Awards, and have been featured in dozens of architectural and building publications.

In 2025 they celebrated their 40th anniversary creating homes in WA and they wanted to celebrate by taking a look back at the history of the company and seeing where they came from.

Our Task

40 years is a long time for a business to be around, let alone to be growing and thriving. The team at Weststyle wanted us to dive back through time and create a short documentary that showed the humble beginnings and the incredible growth of the company.

Our process was very interview-led, and we were lucky enough to be able to speak with the original founders of Weststyle, Ted and Rose, as well as their son and current Managing Director, Tony. 

Weststyle is a family-owned and operated business and that means there is plenty of emotion tied up in everything they do. Our filming style was slow and quiet so that the interviews could speak the loudest. We aimed to capture cinematic visuals with thoughtful lighting and let the pace of the edit be “considered” rather than “flashy”.

Aside from the all-important interviews we also included archival photographs and reminiscences from the original founders, which gives the video a nostalgic feeling and just adds to the “looking back in time” feeling.

We also created a suite of shorter video edits for Weststyle to use on their social media accounts and EDMs – each video focusing on a single aspect of the overall long form edit. You can watch several of them below.

The Result

The final video piece is a gorgeous look back at a thriving and heartwarming business that clearly loves what they do. It was such an amazing opportunity for us to plan and produce a project like this because it gave us a chance to dig down into the emotion of the situation rather than focus on high energy and fast edits like many of our other projects.

It was nice to slow things down for a change and speaking with each of our interviewees reminded us why we do what we do. Storytelling is at the heart of video production, and we love doing it. 

Weststyle held a lavish 40th Birthday party to celebrate this milestone and our video was shown to attendees on the night. The response was amazing!

So many people came up to us and congratulated us on capturing the essence of what the business represents, and were genuinely impressed with the look and feel of our filming and editing. A proud moment for our team!
