Yirra Yaakin - At What Cost?

About

We had the pleasure of working with Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company on their latest production, At What Cost? — a powerful new theatrical work presented as part of their 2026 season.

Written by Trawlwoolway playwright Nathan Maynard and directed by Yirra Yaakin Artistic Director Maitland Schnaars, At What Cost? explores questions of identity, belonging, ownership and the complexities of Aboriginal identity. Set in Putalina (Oyster Cove), Tasmania, the story follows Boyd as he navigates his responsibilities to family, Country and community while confronting questions around who has the right to claim Aboriginal identity.

The production was presented by Yirra Yaakin as a WA premiere at Subiaco Arts Centre.

Blackvue is one of the most prolific and innovative dashcam companies in the world and their product offering is second to none. Social Meteor developed the initial creative strategy and then engaged Birdhouse to produce the actual content – planning, filming, and editing.

Our Task

The crew at Yirra Yaakin got in touch with us to produce all of the social media content for At What Cost?, creating a collection of content that would build awareness of the production, introduce audiences to the world of the play and support Yirra Yaakin’s marketing campaign across its social channels.

As well as producing the core social media content for the production, we also created dedicated content for NAIDOC Week. This gave us an opportunity to connect the production with the broader cultural conversation happening during one of the most significant periods in the country.

Our approach was to create content that felt native to social media rather than simply repurposing traditional theatre marketing. We captured the cast, the production environment and the people behind the show to give audiences an insight into At What Cost? which encouraged the public to engage with the production before stepping into the theatre.

The Result

Working with a theatre company like Yirra Yaakin is always an exciting opportunity because there is so much depth behind the work. At What Cost? provided a particularly rich creative subject, with its exploration of identity, what it means to be ‘mob’, Country and belonging giving us plenty to work with.

We’re proud to have helped Yirra Yaakin bring the production to life online and create content that extended the story beyond the stage.
